Artistic Photographs Evoking the Beauty of Earth and the Creation of Life

From Front Jacket: "This remarkable book is the result of years of work by one of the truly great photographers of our day. The story of Creation has challenged the imaginative powers of poets, artists, and musicians throughout the centuries; in these pages it is represented for the first time in photographs, offering, as the author says, 'a sort of spiritual ecology in praise of the earth which man inherited and should seek ardently to protect.' While the camera is usually associated with journalism, Ernst Haas believes that today no medium is better suited to interpret the story of the Creation than photography. The point is well proved by this incredible series of color pictures, selected and ingeniously arranged in flowing sequences that represent so forcefully, so magnificently, the elements, the seasons, the moving creatures, on up to the crowning achievement, the birth of mean. Following the author's introduction are the opening passages of Genesis, from the Old Testament. At the end fo the book, following the color plates, Ernst Haas tells how and where he took these pictures. Speaking of Ernst Haas, Edward Steichen said, "In my estimation we have experienced an epoch in photography. He is a free spirit, untrammeled by tradition and theory, who has gone out and found beauty unparalleled in photography.' The timeliness of this book, the universal appeal of its theme, the emergence of photography as an art form, the imagination and consummate skill of the author, and the quality of the printing all contribute to make this book a milestone in book-publishing history. My wonderful wife bought me this masterpiece 10 yrs. ago. I open it up anytime I need photographic inspiration. Why did I not take one of his seminars? This book, in my biased opinion, would be worth 150 bucks (in great condition of course)for photographic lovers. Landscapes, close ups, surreal images........ I wish I had much more of Mr. Haas' stuff.John,Texas
