A Must Read!

When I first started this book, I have to admit, I was saying "wtf!?!?!" about the plot. It's so different from the "normal" lesbian story line that I got a little angry. I didn't want to read something that was less than the ideal romance. However, as I pushed past my preconceived notions of what a lesbian romance "should" be I found myself falling deeply in love with the characters. So much so, that I forgot I was even mad about how it started. This is now my absolute favorite story, bar none. I have re-read it many times and find myself as captivated as I was the first time through. I can't recommend this book enough. Thanks, Gerri!!!!!!

Open-minded

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I am glad I decided to buy the Cottage and see for myself. I too am an avid reader of Gerri Hill and still find this book heartfelt and a delightful short read. I have re-read it again and teared at the end for a second time. The story moves along and her writing takes the reader everywhere from the lake to the cottage in full detailed strides. Thank you Gerri for yet another entertaining story that I enjoyed immensely! drenda

Another Top of the HILL book

This book follows suit with Ms. Hill's amazing writing, with one exception...it isn't the "norm" of Lesbian story lines. Two women who are "straight" meet...wha' happened? Incredible story, very believable in that it goes to the "you can't help who you fall in love with" plot. The ONLY fallback, if you want to call it one, is that it is WAY too short. Keep writing, Ms. Hill...I suspect that you have a great following and you continue to grow in talent with each story. BY THE WAY...she is SO not afraid to write a great love scene. Or a few...NICE.

Truly Unique Story Line

"The Cottage" is the story of two "straight" women who fall in love. The gradual development of unfamiliar and confusing feelings, just the right pacing, and realistic treatment of the issues involved --- each of these could easily be poorly depicted. I don't believe an inexperienced author could tell this story properly, but Gerri Hill has done it, and the result is a masterpiece. The character studies are so good that I felt the feelings of both protagonists, especially Jill Richardson. This author grows by leaps and bounds with each succeeding book. I have a feeling that this one is destined to become a classic.

Meant To Be

Most of us have probably met someone and within a few minutes felt like we had known her forever. That's what happens with Carrie and Jill in Gerri Hill's "The Cottage". Yes, the story is bittersweet. But wouldn't everyone like to experience the kind of love Gerri creates between these two women who were destined to find each other at just the "right" time? Jill gives Carrie that once in a lifetime love and devotion that we all dream about but not all of us find. And Carrie ... she helps Jill find the strength to take control of her life and seek out a new direction. Yes, you need to have some tissues handy as you read Jill's account of their time together, but it's well worth a few tears and red eyes and even sniffles to experience this special story of two women so meant to be ... so deeply in love. The Cottage is a bit of a departure for Gerri Hill but it is a beautifully written story that any romantic will enjoy. And perhaps it even reminds us that life is short so it's important to love as well as we can like everyday may be our last! Yet again, I highly recommend this and any other story written by lesbian fiction's finest author Gerri Hill.

Something different

This book does not follow the usual lesbian romance formula (girl meets girl, they go through some trials, tribulations, a few misunderstandings and then live happily ever after). I am a voracious reader of lesbian fiction and have read all of Gerri Hill's books. This book excels because of its' difference from the rest (a difference that I thought would make me NOT want to read it and surely NOT enjoy it). But I read The Cottage in one sitting...three hours and several tears later, I realized that this was the best book I'd read in while. It is beautifully written, touching and sad, yet joyous at the same time. I recommend this book to every fan of lesbian fiction.
