The contribution of tourism to the emergence of Cameroon by 2035

Tourism is a major activity, representing an economic sector responsible for 9% of world GDP. In recent years, it has experienced strong growth, which is expected to continue, particularly in developing countries which have experienced a rate of increase in visitor arrivals that far exceeds the world average. Tourism accounts for 29% of services exports worldwide and in many developing countries it is an important, and sometimes the main, source of foreign exchange earnings. Academic studies and many international bodies have confirmed the sector's contribution to economic growth and recognise its importance as a driver of sustainable development. The new Rio+20 outcome document, "The Future We Want", highlights that sustainable tourism contributes to green growth. Indeed, this is a diagnostic study as the aim of the conference is to understand and demonstrate that tourism is an asset for the development of Cameroon.
