Everything i had hoped for when i first saw it... a thorough introduction to the sports psychology of ice hockey, though it could certainly be applied to any sport or any competitive performance endeavor. this book allowed me to really improve several things i have been working on - productive visualization, mental preparation for games, and controlling destructive emotions like frustration and apprehension. it's a well written book with tons of examples and stories from NHL and other players. i had to write all over it, too, which is always a sign of something i really use. i plan to continue rereading it and integrating the techniques into my play and development. in addition to the main part, there are special chapters on offense and scoring, playing d, playing goal, and rehab. good stuff. like i said, i think this book is a major positive addition to anyone's training program.

This is a very readable book with some excellent mental coaching tips. It describes a number of techniques for managing emotions and using power thinking and imagery that I have found to be very useful. I liked the chapters on a winning attitude and what it takes "to make it" in the NHL. I thought they offered some practical suggestions to build confidence, and mental toughness. The strength of the book for me is that it is very practical. There are lots of excellent stories and examples that illustrate the author's experience and techniques. And I like how he relates his observations and advice to what many NHL players and coaches have to say about their mental game. I would recommend it to any hockey player or coach.
