A remarkable book

What I like about the Complete Idiot's Guide series is that you are assured that the authors involved in writing each specific topic are both well-established and well-respected in their field. And this could not be more true for this book on being psychic. When I became interested in this topic more than 20 years ago, there were very few books around that did not have an "occult" or "other-worldly" tone to it, which I found off-putting. It has been well worth the 20-year wait for a book like this, which deals with all aspects of being psychic from just that gut feeling to astral projection and written in a style that recognizes that these are very real intuitions/communications that a lot of people experience and that can be developed in each individual (although not all people may be able to develop all of the skills). This is a remarkable book that packs in more than you can imagine on this vast topic - well worth buying.

Great "starter book"

Over the last few months, I've had more and more experiences that one could consider to be "psychic ones." I got this book as one way to learn more about the "psychic world" and what I could do on my own to enhance my psychic abilities. And there's a lot that this book covers. One main thing I did learn was that I need to explore doing meditation. There are a number of meditation exercises listed in this book. There are also numerous anecdotes throughout the book to prove that there is indeed such a thing as "psychic phenomena."Starting off with determining whether or not you or indeed psychic, a "history" of pyschic-related events through the ages, and what science has to say about psychic phenomena, this book's goal is to inform, not preach and offer some good advice about expanding your psychic awareness, which it does in the second part of the book. Chapters about receiving information, opening up to, and "tuning in" to your awareness are feautred here. There are also later on in the book chapters about psychic healing, hypnosis, telepathy, precognition, channeling messages from "beyond our world," even some "tools of the trade."There's nothing "new agey" about this book, it presents information in a clear and straightforward manner and one that is easy for everyone to understand.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Psychic

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Psychic, by Lynn A. Robinson, M.Ed. and LaVonne Carlson-Finnerty, has everything you need to recognize and develop your innate psychic abilities. Robinson is an intuitive consultant who has been helping people for more than 20 years, and Carlson-Finnerty is a writer specializing in health, alternative health, and spirituality. Together they've written an easy-to-understand book that will answer every question you might have about being psychic. Robinson emphasizes that everyone is psychic. It simply takes a bit of practice to develop your abilities. The book is filled with easy exercises designed to help bring you recognize psychic experiences and develop your own "sixth sense." The authors present a brief history of psychic phenomena, beginning with the Babylonians, who "read" animal entrails to predict the future. They also list people who have depended on their psychic abilities, including Sir Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, and Henry Ford. They also tell you how to choose a psychic, or intuitive, consultant and what to reasonably expect from a reading. Most of the book, however, is devoted to developing your own abilities. They emphasize that "your intuition is sending you information all the time--you just need to start noticing it." People receive information in various ways. The most common are clairvoyance (inner vision), clairaudience (inner voice), and clairsentience (inner sensing). Others can touch an object and know its history (psychometry), while some receive information via taste or smell. They also discuss hypnosis, dreams, telepathy, auras, precognition, ESP, channeling, and astral travel. Once you learn to recognize and develop your particular psychic abilities, you can then use them to improve your life, especially for mental and physical healing. Your intuition can help you decide what your ideal life is, and then help you live that ideal. For those who wish to help others, the authors provide information on how to give a reading. Robinson and Carlson-Finnerty have also compiled several appendices of resource material, including Internet sources. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Psychic is a useful reference for anyone wishing to understand or develop their innate talents. It's easy to read, with lots of practical examples, and it thoroughly covers all things psychic.

Great for beginners and newcomers alike!

I highly recommend this book for everyone, old or new to the psychic world. It's got tons of information, tidbits about history of psychic phenomenon, and easy to understand translations and definitions. It's a great book and definitely worth buying!

A treasure of a book; life-changing and fun to read.

I admit it. I'm a new-age aficionado. I've probably read more books on more new-age subjects - especially things psychic - than any other physical-state being on Earth. That's why I feel compelled to spread the good news about this amazing book. Though the word "idiots" adorns its cover, its content is decidedly skewed to the intelligent reader of "How-to" and "Guide-to" literature. Ms.Robinson's fresh, candid, down-to-earth approach to an historically vague and mysterious subject is so remarkable, it almost seems like the first readable book ever written on the subject. Take my word for it, the history is fascinating and inviting, the advice is supportive and commonsensical, and the exercises are easy and meaningful. All in all, "Being Psychic" is more than an exceptional book; it's a rewarding experience that can literally change your life. In case you haven't guessed yet, I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful book, and I congratulate Lynn A. Robinson, her co-author, and MacMillan Publishing for presenting it to the world. Thank you.
