A Brilliant Book for Home Study

I'm thrilled with my purchase of "The Complete Book of Science". It is very comprehensive, with excellent, colour pictures to brighten the book up for young students, and also to clarify the lessons. The topics are clearly explained at the right level for the Grade 5-6 age group. The worksheets are also excellent, and fun to do. I live in Australia, but I buy most of my educational books from America, because they are of a far higher quality than those that we can get "Down Under". I have home-schooled my son using American books, and as a tutor, I also use them to teach my private students. I would recommend "The Complete Book" series to anyone, and in particular this science edition.

Terrific Books

These books are FANTASTIC if you enjoy working with your kids and helping them learn new material or material that is not being taught at your school. They are easy to read and full of great activities. It's a great review for parents if you forgot some of the projects you did as a kid. I purchased about five of these different books and they are all great for taking them on the road when the kids are bored. And the price is right! Great deal!!

Excellent for Unit Studies

This book makes learning or relearning (in my case)science interesting and fun. I would not however call it a complete book of science. It is just enough to whet the appetite but you need more resource material to completely cover each topic. If you are looking for a total package I would not purchase this book. If you want enough to peak your child's interest then this is an excellent starting point. I find that when I couple this material with internet research on each topic it is much more in depth. I would say it is a good buy for the money.

Another terrific title from McGraw-Hill

I love the "Complete Book of" books from MH, and this one is the biggest hit at my house. I homeschool my first grader, and we use this as our main science curriculum. We do the hands-on activities and we use supplemental reading to delve more deeply into each of the subjects. The "Animals" section goes beautifully with their Complete Book of Animals and their Solar System section also corresponds terrifically with The Complete Book of Our Solar System. This is enough material for the core of two years' worth of study, and the activities are bright, engaging, imaginative, and never boring. It's a shame it's out of print now, but it's worth getting a used copy - an excellent value all around. My child ASKS to "do science" now thanks to this book. =)

Wonderful for homeschool supplementing!

I currently teach my kids using unit studies, and this book is a wonderful supplement to many of the subjects we cover.
