A refreshingly good, clean guidebook

This is an excellent guidebook to the Big Island, which my family and I used extensively during our recent vacation there. There was so much good, accurate information packed between its covers, that we couldn't go wrong. Everything we needed was there, current and direct, and extremely well organized. There were descriptions and directions to even the remotest beaches on the island. We also hiked some of the trails described in it in the Volcanoes National Park, and found the information on length and difficulty level to be accurate to a fault. In an era when all the guidebooks out there are trying to contort themselves into "hidden" and "revealed," with kids and without kids, one-eyed and two-eyed, it's refreshing to find a good, clean, forthright guidebook such as this. I applaud the authors.

Terrific ! A joy to use

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is the guidebook to get for the Big Island. This is how guidebooks ought to be. We had earlier used The Complete Oahu Guidebook from the same series and were thrilled with it--great format, great, user-friendly design, great cross-referencing, great information, nothing terribly opinionated-- it's just like getting on your laptop and clicking on those links, and voila! the information is all there, instantly, at your fingertips. We don't generally get excited about guidebooks, but these little guides are a real discovery. All we needed to soak up and discover Hawaii's Big Island was this handy little volume, our rental car, and a topographic map (yes, we admit we shelled out for a University of Hawaii topographic map, even though this guide has good area and local maps pinpointing all the places of interest). We found all the major attractions and out-of-the-way places, just as described in the guidebook. Everything was accurate, spot on, well-researched, current. and the book was a real joy to use. We recommend it without reservation to anyone heading to the Big Island. Great job folks!
