The Compass Student Literary Magazine is created from the campus of Paramount Bard Academy, in Delano, California. It seeks to nurture the voice of young artists by publishing poetry, fiction, non-fiction, literary criticism, visual arts, and mixed-media works from middle and high school students around the world. We seek work that experiments with traditional forms in an effort to make meaning of the 21st century culture that will shape their adult lives.Volume 2 Issue 1: The Roots IssueFor many students at Paramount Bard Academy, the fall semester English courses provided them with an opportunity to explore the storytelling roots of modern literature: oral folklore, mythology, fables, fairy tales, and legends. The artwork of this issue expresses ideas about how these stories have shaped our personal and cultural identities, as well as our very concepts of fact, fiction, and originality.
