It's finally here

I am a gay man in his 60's. I went through all the revolutions and was present when AIDS wiped out my community. But, apparently, now we are somehow trying to make gender fluid and "non-binary" and I'm not sure I grasp it all. But this collection of stories made me VERY confused - if the writer uses "they" but are discussing only one person - ????. Many of the stories refused to identify the lead characters as male or female. Most readers (myself included) like to form a picture of the people they are reading about. This does not happen in most of these stories and it left me feeling puzzled, and a little left out.
