A beautiful book in every way!!

This book is just absolutely wonderful.... It is definitely one of our favourite children's books ever! I found it by chance while looking for books about reindeer. Although it is a Christmas book, it has relevance to any time of year. The story is about Reindeer, who awakens one morning to find mysterious edible decorations (gingerbread) on ribbons attached to his antlers. They are in the shape of various animals of the forest. Reindeer travels through the woods to find out who has decorated his antlers, gathering together each animal that is represented. It is agreed that the animals will cooperate on this very special journey, and not harm each other. They include Wolf, Ermine, Magpie, Lynx, Lemming, and Ptarmigan, among others. Eventually, the animals find their way to the person (guess who?) who gave them the gingerbread, and he asks Reindeer to go with him on his Christmas Eve mission. This book is so beautiful, because it really emphasizes both the beauty of the natural world, and the importance of gentleness. The Christmas story it presents has the option of being interpreted from various spiritual perspectives, from earth-centred to Christian. And the illustrations are truly glorious.... It should be a Christmas classic just for them! They are very detailed, beautifully coloured, and have a kind of Scandinavian folk-art feel to them in places. There is even an advent calendar in the back of the book! What more can you ask for? I highly recommend The Christmas Deer!! :)
