Chocolate Heaven

I have always loved chocolate, but haven't gone beyond baking chocolate cakes and chocolate mousse. A Chocolate Lover's Guide Cookbook, written by Bobbie Hasselbring, has given me the confidence to try much more. From the clear tips for cooking with chocolate through the glossary, this book has it all. Especially helpful was the information on types of chocolate and techniques for cooking with it. The recipes, besides being mouthwatering, are precisely written. The reader is coached through each recipe to a quality result. I feel as I did when I first cooked from Julia Child's cookbooks--I can do this. From the author's notes, all of the recipes, which were generously donated by fine cooks in the Pacific Northwest, have been tested in private kitchens. This results in recipes which we chocolate lovers/home cooks can follow and have success with. This cookbook, paired with The Chocolate Lover's Guide to the Pacific Northwest, is obviously the author's labor of love. I am grateful for that. The difficulty for readers of this cookbook is that of deciding which recipe to start with--all of them are described with such care and sound so delicious! A reader could be forgiven for just getting in the car and driving to the restaurants which offered recipes! Barring travel, I think home cooks will be enraptured by their creations from this cookbook.

The Chocolate Lover's Guide Cookbook

This book rates 11 stars, not just 5! At least one fabulous dessert recipe belongs in every good cook's arsenal. After all, a fabulous dessert is like a little black dress--elegant and appropriate for any occasion. Bobbie Hasselbring's just made it easier to find the perfect dessert recipe than it is to find the perfect little black dress. Her book, "The Chocolate Lover's Guide Cookbook," features 102 incredibly delicious desserts. Hasselbring, a chocolate lover herself, has written a thoroughly entertaining and usable cookbook, which brings the art of cooking with chocolate within reach of anyone familiar with the business end of a whisk. Desserts range from cakes and tortes to cheesecakes, pies, tarts, and beyond. While the cookbook features spectacular recipes from top Pacific Northwest chefs and bakers, the recipes themselves range from simple to complex. The book also includes essential information on cooking tips, tools, and techniques. "The Chocolate Lover's Guide Cookbook" is fun to sit down and just read through, but once you get going on the recipes, you won't be able to stop at just one. You'll find yourself dreaming up excuses to make things like Truffle Cake, Dutch Chocolate Roll, and Chocolate Creme Brulee in Chocolate Sour Cherry Brioche. Mmmmm, good. Thanks Bobbie!
