Written by a Christian from a Jewish background, these inductive studies of 13 Old Testament women provide models for contemporary women and men. Well known characters like Eve, Sarah and Rebekah are included along with their lesser known sisters such as Lot's wife, Huldah and Abigail. Each chapter begins with primary and supplementary Scripture passages setting each woman in her historical context, followed by study and discussion questions and finally by the author's character studies. This arrangement bespeaks the priority the author gives to individual study and reflection. Buswell projects a serious attitude toward biblical study, but doesn't presume every reader will agree with her interpretation.
