A great insight into America's Best-Loved Gospel Quartet!

A great look at the Cathedrals' history, George Younce and Glen Payne's stories, and the gospel music business in general. A MUST read for anyone who has ever listened to gospel music!

It's too short!

A great book for Cathedral's fans. The lives of these two gentlemen are a true example of what being in God's service is all about. They have touched hearts and lives for decades with their music. My only complaint is that it was too short and I hope someday, the full and complete story of Glen Payne and George Younce will be told.

God is Good!!

WOW! As a fan of the Cathedrals, I loved reading about the 2 Sr members. The Lord worked in both of their lives to bring them together to bless us all with their music and their commitment to the call on their lives. If you love the Cathedrals, you will LOVE this book!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely a must-read book for all who love the Cathedrals

I borrowed this book from a friend and read it, and now I want to purchase the book for my library. I have managed to get two of the books for two different friends autographed at several of their concerts. This makes the book even more meaningful, especially having Glen's and George's autographs. I would highly recommend purchasing this book and adding to your library.

Group history and autobiographies of Younce and Payne

This new book is a must for Cathedrals fans and could as easily be called George Younce and Glen Payne's autobiographies. This well written book is served up in three parts: George's Story, Glen's Story, and The Cathedrals. This is no mere history of the Cathedrals. Both George and Glen open their hearts and tell their life's stories. Both are from humble beginnings, but both had unquenchable desire to sing gospel music. George's is a touching account of dramatic highs and lows, from moral defeat and despondency to the blessing of success singing with such popular groups as the Weatherfords and Blue Ridge Quartet. His association with Earl and Lily Fern Weatherford is particularly noteworthy, for it was there that he gained significant recognition singing with the Weatherfords on WOWO Radio in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the 1950's, also becoming know as the "Country Boy" for his solo work.Glen's journey covers much important history in his association with the Stamps-Baxter School of Music and several of the Stamps Quartets. His story also includes singing with the Weatherfords. His is an inspiring account of loyalty to his loving family and the all consuming influence of gospel music. The final section is an honest and revealing history of the Cathedral Quartet and its beginnings with the Rex Humbard ministry in Akron, Ohio. Few may know of the difficult road of leaving the security of the Cathedral in Akron and the years of struggle to become what we know as the Cathedrals today. This book is no glossy picture of two of the most well known men in Southern Gospel music today, but a moving, transparent story of commitment. Every Cathedrals fan will blessed by this volume and will love George Younce, Glen Payne, and the Cathedrals all the more.
