The Cat Who...:Cookbook iw wonderful

If you are a fan of these books and love to cook, you WILL love this book. Although you'll have to modify recipes for health (sub condensed skim milk for heavy cream, etc), the recipes are so yummy and PERFECTLY reflect the style and character of the books! There are snippets from the books leading into the recipes, and often entire meals ordered by Quilleran or Polly or whoever are in this cookbook. This endeavor was VERY well done. Great!

Meowingly Tasty Recipes

"Pompously Qwilleran said, "I cannot tell a lie. I picked the lock of the library closet. There are tons of papers in there...There was also a recipe for Lena's angel food cake with chocolate frosting that sounded delicious." Cat Who....Cookbook contains delicious meals to meow about. The menus were inspired by Lilian Jackson Braun's beloved cat mysteries. Just look for the paw prints and you will know you have the right book! I first read her books while on a weekend vacation and found them to be amusing. If you are a fan of "The Cat Who" series, you will love this book. Cookbook collectors will also love reading instead of cooking. The authors are college professors who have also had their recipes featured in the Atlanta Journal. When they are not editing cookbooks or offering cooking workshops, they have "Cat Who" parties, which featured dishes inspired by the mystery series. Chicken in a Dark and Mysterious Sauce sounds good to me. Now, my two cats always know when I am cooking chicken. They stand around looking up at me with those sad little kitty eyes and beg for a piece of chicken. I think your cats would love it if you cooked them dinner. After all, cats give us so much love. Why not cook up a meal for yourself and a treat for your furry feline friends to some freshly cooked chicken. This is a one-of-a-kind cookbook which brings together appetizing meals out of the pages of the novels and features a "feline fare" section. This book is 342 pages and contains 200 recipes inspired by the events in the mystery books. These are some of the foods that were eaten by Qwilleran and his companions: Lobster Bisque Mrs. Cobb's Coconut Cake Curried Lamb Raspberry Trifle Open-Face Tuna Sandwiches Fried Chicken Turkey Tetrazzini Easy Chocolate Cake Samosas Sea Scallops in Saffron Cream Sauce Hummus Vegetarian Curry Includes Metric Equivalents and Cooking Temperatures and easy-to-use index. All the recipes have been selected to represent the setting of the stories. Each section begins with a menu for a complete meal found in the corresponding Cat Who...novel. "What would you like for breakfast? Turkey from the deli? Or cocktail shrimp from a can?" Koko was not present to cast his vote, but Yum Yum was rubbing against Qwilleran's ankles in anticipation and curling her tail lovingly around his leg, and he knew she preferred turkey. He began to mince slices of white meat. (The Cat Who Went Underground) ~The Rebecca Review

It's No Mystery, This Is A Great Cookbook!

The Cat Who Cookbook has wonderful recipes based on foods mentioned in Lilian Jacson Braun's famous novels. I have had nothing but success with the recipes I have tried from this book. Special favorites are the Carrot Raisin Muffins, and the Pork Chops Etouffee that I tried tonight. VERY good, and simple to prepare. Most mystery fans must also be food fans, since so many popular series now include recipes. This book is more useful to me, though, since it has the recipes all together in a separate place, making them easy to find when I want them. Now, a plug for your public library: If you want to try before you buy, check a copy out from your local library. If you like the book, order a copy... (But don't forget to return your library's copy!)

The Whole Cat and Kabibbles

I bought this book as a wedding present for a friend and co-worker who loves the "Cat Who" series as much as I do. He and I often exchange quotes and funniest moments from our favorite selections. When I saw this book I knew I had to get it for them! Now, after going through it I realize I need to buy one for myself as well! Each chapter is dedicated to one of the books with a short plot synopsis and then recipes associated with that book are listed. So you don't have all the pies listed in one chapter, main dishes in another and so on. I like this format very much-it fits in with what the authors have done....chart Qwill and the cats lives and adventures through food. It is clever and well done. This book should NOT be read on an empty stomach....you will want to go to the kitchen and fix everything! I had always wondered what set Mrs. Cobbs meatloaf apart from all others... now I know. The Nasty Pasty Pasty, and Tipsy's Coleslaw will have to be tried. For any reader of Lillian Jackson Braun who has longed to visit Moose County this book is the next best thing. My idea of a fun evening? Curling up with a volume from the "Cat Who" series and something made from this book.

Must read For Cat Who fans

46 THE CAT WHO ... COOKBOOK includes over 200 recipes from the annals of the Moose County residents (human and feline). The book also includes menus from special events that have occurred in the "Cat Who" series. The book is broken into chapters that represent the twenty-two novels in the series. Thus, the recipes represent a character from a particular tale. There is also a special chapter devoted to "Feline Fare", which I asked my cats to review, but they refused to read it, preferring the real thing. This cookbook is clearly for the diehard fans of the series. It contains recipes, humorous anecdotes, and menus that only those chefs who want to dine on Moose County fare will take the time to bake. This reviewer sampled a few (reading that is, not dining-style) and found them entertaining and mouth watering (coconut cake, chocolate sauce, and spicy walnut cake, etc.). However, in all honesty, this reviewer, being of restaurant and microwave in nature, would not take the time to use the recipes, choosing reading over cooking. Although the table of contents is confusing when used to expedite finding a novel's contribution, THE CAT WHO ... COOKBOOK is fun for the Epicurean gourmet whose distinctive taste devours Lillian Jackson Braun's popular series.Harriet Klausner
