James Preller's wry, witty, Jigsaw Jones chapter book mysteries are once again available to inspire the next generation of young readers, featuring both new titles and classroom classics
The Case of the Bicycle Bandit Why would anyone steal an old hunk of junk? Ralphie Jordan loves his beat-up bike, Old Rusty. The tires are bent, spokes are missing, and the chain keeps falling off. But Ralphie wouldn't...
Synopsis: Jigsaw Jones and his friend Ralphie Jordan decide to go to the town library to take a book (and write a report) as class homework that Ms. Gleason, their teacher had given them. On their way, Ralphie stops every once in a while to fix his old bicycle, which he calls "Old Rusty". They go to the library and take out a book, but when they come out, Ralphie sees that "Old Rusty" is missing! Jigsaw thinks this is strange because Jigsaw tied his brand new bicycle with Ralphie's using the same lock, but Jigsaw's cycle was just fine. Mila stops by, and they try to find out if there were any witnesses, by inquiring the people in the grassy lawn near the library. Jigsaw notices one person in particular who walks away quickly as soon as they spot him. As Jigsaw tries to solve the case, he figures out that there is not one, but a group of three people who were involved in Ralphie's missing bike. Can Jigsaw figure out who the third person is who stole the bicycle? Review: This was another fun book to read in the "Jigsaw Jones Mystery" series. It was very different from other books in that, while in most of the other Jigsaw Jones book, the item that is missing is somehow missing accidentally, but in this book, someone intentionally took Ralphie's bicycle, which is why it was more interesting to read why that person did that. The illustrations were as always nicely drawn by Jamie Smith. James Preller also adds some new interesting secret puzzles and explains how the young readers should interpret them, which makes it interactive for the reader. Overall, I thought this was a good addition in the "Jigsaw Jones Mystery" series.
