Cheers for Leithold!

Leithold does a great job of presenting the material to the student. There are plently of examples, proofs, and problems. The book is clearly organized by having color coded boxes allowing the student to find key equations, ideas, and definitions easily. He does a good job at getting straight to the point. Whether learning in a classroom or trying to teach the material to yourself, this book does an awesome job!

Classic text surpasses all others

I've been using my old edition of Leithold's Calculus since 1976 when I was a college freshman, and I've only recently updated to the latest edition. This latest edition holds up just as well as my old copy did 30 years ago. If you are attending a big university, you are about to learn that teaching undergraduates is far down on the agenda of many professors. Leithold's text can be your life line in such a situation. All proofs are clearly derived, there are many worked examples, and it will be useful to you through all three semesters of college Calculus. So even if this is not your assigned textbook, you might want to get a copy. Even twenty five years after I graduated, when I have a calculus question I can usually read the explanation in Leithold and get what I need. A good companion to this book is the Schaum's outline of Calculus. It too will take you through all three semesters of Calculus with plenty of solved problems.

BEST INTRO CALCULUS TEXT

IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS INTEREST IN LEARNING CALCULUS THEN THISIS THE BEST INTRODUCTORY TEXT YOU WILL EVER FIND. THERE ARE NOSHORTCUTS OR DUMBING DOWN. LEITHOLD IS A SERIOUS AUTHOR WHO DOESNOT COMPRIMISE AND YET WRITES FOR THE CALCULUS BEGINNER. NO PROOFS ARE LEFT OUT, THERE ARE LOTS OF WORKED OUT EXAMPLES THATARE FULLY EXPLAINED, AND THE EXERCISES ARE DIFFICULT BUT ON THELEVEL OF A FIRST YEAR STUDENT. ONE CAUTION IS THAT IF YOUR PRE-CALCULUS IS WEAK YOU ARE IN TROUBLE. I FOUND OUT HOW SUPERIORTHIS BOOK IS TO ALL OTHERS BY COMPARING MY NOTES FROM OTHER TEXTS TO MY NOTES ON THE SAME TOPICS FROM OTHER TEXTS. TRY ITON LIMITS AND CONTINUITY AND YOU WILL BE JUST AS AMAZED AS I WAS.ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU INTEND TO DO ANY WORK THAT REQUIRES A GOODUNDERSTANDING OF CALCULUS THEN THIS IS THE ONLY BOOK YOU WANT.

The greatest calculus book I've ever seen

This is the most complete and comprehensive calculus text I've ever seen. The publishers and author of this book owe a great deal to the University of the Philippines since we use it as a text for at least, I repeat at least 3 semesters of calculus because of its difficulty. Mr Lieghthold, every student taking engineering and science and technically-related courses know your book very well and is the cause of much suffering among many students of this university. But It is stil a great book!

Simply Irresistable.

This is yet the best Calculus book. It presents a clear manifestation of how Newton's new math contributes to our concurrent world. Dynamic, fashionable (well, maybe except for the cover), transparent... and simply, irresistable.
