Elder Hafen writes a beautiful discertation about how the LDS people view the Atonement - not just as a necessary and critical fix for redemption but as a comfort and condolence for times we we have been wronged or hurt; the Atonement applies to more than just sin. It has application in all of our heartaches and stuggles. Ths book was inspirational and well-written; a must-read.
An interesting view of the Atonement and well worth the read

I read a previous book by this Author and really found it insightful and moving so tried this one. I wasnt disappointed. In The Broken Heart he gives us views of the Atonement of Jesus Christ as not an event that will one day save us, which it will, but of an event so transcending that it is available not just as an 'end' event but is there for each of us to claim in this life for our shortcomings, sorrows and sins. It was a little difficult to read at times and I found myself going back and rereading some of it, but the understanding I gained was new insight for me and valuable to where I find myself in life. His detail and explainations with live examples was quite helpful. Very good writer.
"The Atonement [of Jesus Christ] is not just for sinners"
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
In his introduction, Hafen writes: "The Savior's victory can compensate not only for our sins, but also for our inadequacies; not only for our deliberate mistakes, but also for sins committed in ignorance, our errors of judgment, and our unavoidable imperfections. Our ultimate aspiration is more than being forgiven of sin - we seek to become holy, endowed with Christlike attributes, at one with him, like him. Divine grace is the only source that can finally fulfill that aspiration, after all we can do." This is the second volume of a sacred trilogy.
