Book Overview

A journalist uncovers the dark secrets of an abandoned boarding school in this chilling suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Sun Down Motel.

Vermont, 1950. There's a place for the girls whom no one wants--the troublemakers, the illegitimate, the ones too smart for their own good. It's called Idlewild Hall, and local legend says the boarding school is haunted. Four roommates bond over their...

So Amazing

I was not disappointed by Simone St. James. Ever since reading The Book of Cold Cases, this author had intrigued me with her writing and story telling skills. The Broken Girls was an amazing novel of murder, mystery, and small-town secrets. I knew some characters had to be involved but I was surprised by the connection to other characters that weren't on my radar in the beginning.

Great intro to murder mystery

This was my first thriller read, and Ioved it. It takes time in both modern day and with flashbacks. Simone does a really goos job of getting you attached to characters and helping you understand them quickly. I only keep books I want to reread someday, and I'm definitely keeping this one

Love this author!

I was hooked within the first few pages. Great ghost story!

My New Favorite Author

I may have found my new favorite author, or at least, one of my new favorites! Simone St James knows how to tell a story. I have three of her books now and have loved all three of them. It is hard for me to pick a favorite, but I will say that The Broken Girls was really hard to put down. I love the way this author can take you back and forth in time and you don't have a hard time following it. This is part ghost story, part crime drama, a story about relationships, and a bona fide page turner all rolled into one. You cannot go wrong right here. Do yourself a favor and read this one, along with Simone St. James' other stories. I promise you will not be sorry.

Another win for Simone St. James

This was a great and super creepy read! I had to stop reading after dark at certain points because of the chills. Another story with dual timelines, which seem to be characteristic of this author, but she does it well. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic

Simone St. James is such an amazing writer, and The Broken Girls is an amazing story told across two timelines. It's atmospheric and wonderfully written.

Two plots that are scary and thrilling.

This is the first book I've read of this author and I was hooked from the first chapter. Great spooky story!!!

Loved this book

This was my third book by Simone St James and by far my favorite. I love that it goes from past to present. I love the ghost stories and history. I did figure out the mystery about half way through the book but it still kept my interest to see how it all played out. If you like a little creepy read you would enjoy it.

I liked it

I enjoyed reading this story, but I was not a huge fan of the main character.
