Regency Suspense

The Bride of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is the second book in her Blackfriars Lane series. As Kit Turner’s wedding day approaches, she wants to give her groom, Detective Jackson Forge, the perfect wedding gift; justice and the answers to a family mystery. But her investigation starts a series of events that will have devastating consequences. The storyline was good. I just had a hard time getting past all the pettiness between Kit and Jackson. There was no give and take, no communication; all they wanted to do was control and blame each other. The story had potential that wasn’t accessed. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Kit and Jackson's adventure continues

"Pride preserves yerself, humility preserves yer relationship." So this book is the second book in Blackfriars Lane series and I do think you should read the first book before picking up this one. There is a lot of backstory in the first book and Kit and Jackson's relationship in this book is best enjoyed with the background of all the events in the previous book. The author infuses a good dose of humor with quite a bit of action as the plot unfolds - not one but two - fascinating mysteries to be solved. The dialogue between Kit and Jackson is witty and fun, as always. Though completely different, their love for each other is undeniable, but they still need to learn to compromise as they plan their life together. The reminder that "anger and bitterness are a choice" and the growth in faith that they both experience are powerful. Though I did thoroughly enjoy the book, I didn't always connect with Kit as she insisted and manipulated to get her own way. I didn't always connect with Jackson either, as he drowned in his insecurities and indecisions. But still, the mysteries were interesting and the conclusion was satisfying. I received the book from the publisher via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Wedded bliss isn't simple

5 stars, Wedded bliss isn't simple THE BRIDE OF BLACKFRIARS LANE (BLACKFRIARS LANE #2) by Michelle Griep Kit and Jackson are back, they are both detectives working for the police, solving crimes and planning on their upcoming marriage. Kit wants to help solve a crime against Jackson's brother, from years ago. She has many contacts from the streets and she is sure that someone knows what happened. Jackson forbids her to delve into the matter and that's where their relationship hits a snag. This is a great stand-alone novel. The books in this series: THE THIEF OF BLACKFRIARS LANE #1 THE BRIDE OF BLACKFRIARS LANE #2 Highly recommend it. So good!! A must read!!

Simply put, this book was just so good! Kit and Jackson are back in this lovely follow-up to "The Thief Of Blackfriars Lane", and they're up to more wild hijinks than ever before! Kit Turner, soon to be Mrs. Jackson Forge, seeks to right the sins and mysteries of the past as a wedding present to her loving Jackson. As streetwise as she may be, will this mystery be more than she can handle? Newly installed Inspector Jackson Forge can't wait to marry Kit, and start their new life together far from the hustle and danger of the rough London streets she's grown up on. He's trying to wrap up loose ends and mismatched pieces of cases and crimes but Kit is hot on the trail of something, but what exactly? I didn't know how much I needed this book, but it's absolutely smashing! I do quite love the lingo and rich flavor, and in my opinion this book beats the Regency stuffiness of so many other English/British novels today. Michelle Griep brings to life the London of old in pristine color, and makes you feel as though you're traipsing down the cobblestone streets right alongside Kit, Jackson and the gang. This is a positively brilliant sequel, and I would love to see this become a full series what with Jackson and Kit being such a cracking detective team and all!! Thank you to Netgalley, the author and Barbour Publishing for a e-copy of this book. A positive review was not required, and the thoughts above are my very own.
