My fascination with the Georgia Fifth Infantry Regiment began when I saw a very old photograph at a flea market showing these "boys" in front of a tent. The photo was evidently taken towards the end of the war - perhaps at Kennesaw and yet it showed one black man standing in the center of the company. I began researching the regiment in hopes of finding out more about him, but to date I have not identified him. One company of the Fifth Infantry Regiment, The Clinch Rifles of Augusta, Georgia actually traced it roots to a fire company in Augusta prior to the war, and when war came, they evidently joined en masse.
