Book Overview

The Boys King Arthur (1880) by the American poet Sidney Lanier is a re-working of the original Sir Thomas Malory's "History of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table". The book interprets existing French and English stories about these figures, with some of Malory's own original material (the Gareth story). First published in 1485 by William Caxton, Le Morte d'Arthur is perhaps the best-known work of English-language Arthurian literature today...

Have it on your shelf if only for the pictures.

Well, I gave it a bit of a try, the Old English really doesn't suit me, but I will pursue it again later, so i may truly have the story "under my belt". The pictures make me wish I could enter them, N.C. Wyeth was a genius.

The Story Of King Arthur and His Knights

N.C. Wyeth illustrated the book of "The Boy's King Arthur"in 1917. The Boy's King Arthur, is avout the top main knights such as, Lancelot, and how they become a knight. This story exists as part of the original King Arthur stories, but it becomes shorter than the original. Also in The Boys King Arthur, you will encounter how knights acted back in the fourth century. The author of this story uses more details, and more unique, and unusual things than the original story. The battle with Mordred and Arthur at the end, I considered that to be an extremely unique fight, because Mordred becomes a traitor to his own father, Arthur. Unusually, N.C. Wyeth adds old English in the ways of back then in the story. The Narrator of The Boys King Arthur remains just an outsider of the story. The main setting of the novel places in England, and the themes of the novel, exists as just how peasents and people become the top Knights of the Round Table. (Lancelot, Tristram, Galahad, Percival, and the fair maid of Astolat) Also the story illustrates how King Arthur becomes King of England, And his death. I recommend that people should read this book only if they're thirteen and up. Also I recommend that you should read The Boys King Arthur only if you read the original version of King Arthur. I say this because the book remains in old English, and might be quite hard to understand. I thought this book is quite hard to understand of the old English, and the length of the book with the old English.

Gorgeous collectable..

This is a most gorgeous book, well produced on beautiful paper, with wonderful reproductions of the original NC Wyeth pictures. A collectable to treasure!

A true timeless classic!

My father first began reading to me from this book when I was just a wee lad. The stories of honor, courage and chivalry, as well as the "forsooth" writing style en-thralled me in the magical mystery surrounding Arthur and his knights. I believe that the stories read to me as a child went on to shape me into the person I am today. I encourage all parents to by this book as bedtime reading for their children. Turn down the lights, and let the past come alive! A wonderfully romantic tale for the young at heart as well!

Ilustrations by the father of an American painting dynasty

It's a pleasure to see the work of the patriach of an American painters family, N. C. Wyeth. This juvenile version of the Arthur myth is a good and classic introduction into Celtic lore later transformed into chivalry, knights, castles, and mystery. The art makes it worth reading and enjoying by an older audience. Bill Rowe
