Not bad, but not great

I adored Anita Diamant's 'The Red Tent', and as a Boston girl myself, I was over the moon to read this. If I didn't know it was by the same author, I never would have guessed it. Not so much a book about being from Boston, nor for me was it even close to her other novel. While it held my interest enough and had some nice passages, overall, I felt it never really took off. I was definitely not wowed, but it did at least make me want to finish the book. It was fine, but for me it didn't reach anywhere near the level of beautiful writing that I've seen from Diamant before.
