Marching south after the ghastly battle at the Tower of Charm, the Black Company is hounded by shadowy figures every inch of the way.
The game is on: the Company versus the Shadowmasters, deadly creatures that deal in darkness and sorrow. When hope dies, there's still survival. And there's still the Black Company. The Book of the South is the second omnibus of novels from one of the greatest fantasy epics of our age,...
Glenn Cook is a great author. I've read this whole series multiple times....'Nuff said!
Great Gritty Fantasy

If you like shiny, happy people in chainmail riding off into the sunset, this isn't the series for you. I discovered The Black Company with the first omnibus and watched the skies for this follow-up omnibus. My wife and I fought over who got to read it first... fortunately, I distracted her with a Dresden Files she hadn't read yet. This volume continues telling the adventures of The Black Company, and the fallout from conflicts that occurred in the first omnibus, spanning years of time for our "heroes". The protagonists are not shiny knights on noble steeds, they are far more interesting characters drawn from the shadow spectrum of grey that lies between the extremes of white and black. As with the first omnibus, I had a very difficult time putting this thing down. Engrossing, interesting, and darn it, I want more!! Fortunately, it looks like TOR may publish the rest of the series as omnibus volumes as well.
Excellent continuation of the series

Short and sweet this is as good as the first 3 books, in fact I'd say it's better, the added dimension of the Lady being with the company is really worth reading, especially when some two bit warlord thinks he can push her around!
Some of the best fantasy around

I started reading fantasy about 5 years ago. Initially I was engrossed in Salvatore's books, but since then I've discovered better and more mature fantasy. The Black Company books are my favorite fantasy novels now. I would suggest that anyone looking for great Dark Fantasy check out these books. It's so refreshing to read books that don't spit out the same old fantasy cliches that many authors are guilty of using.
