not Troublesome at all

Going in I had never heard of the Blue Fugates. But I think this is a timely piece showcasing discrimination of people of any color. I have some familiarity with aspects of the WPA program, but did not know about the Book Women and Men who braved the Kentucky terrain and mountains to help people grow in their literacy. Yes, there were uncomfortable bits, but overall and moving and historical book that I will read again.

Fantastic book.

Absolutely loved this book. Loved the characters & everything about it.

The book woman of troublesome creek, couldn't put it down.

The read made me angry, happy, sad, grateful and sometimes horrified to experience thru reading the humane struggle and the pain prejudice, ignorance and fear. I would recommend this for adults and teens alike.

A remarkable and unforgettable story

I read this book several years ago, yet the characters are still very fresh in memory. A slice of the past I never imagined existed and again a wonderful novel expanded my world.

The characters in this book are still with me, I feel like they are my friends!

This is one of the best books I've ever read, maybe as good as GWTW. Looking forward to reading more from this author

I will definitely be reading this book again!

Kim Michele Richardson has succeeded in writing a book that can only be described as incredible. The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek is heart-rending, and with Kim’s beautiful, almost poetic way of writing I was pulled into the dark and lonely world of our heroine. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book and couldn’t put it down! This is a book that I will be reading again!!

Fascinating Story!

This was a really fascinating story! Even though it is historical fiction, I learned a lot that I had never known, like the blue people of Kentucky. This book had me going and looking up more information about them as I read the book and afterwords. I really liked traveling along with Cussy as she rode Junia, as a Book Woman of the Pack Horse Library. Reading it in the modern times, it was hard to get through the prejudice that some of the characters had for Cussy, and other people of color, be they blue or another shade. Cussy is a wonderfully strong woman during all the trials she had in her life and she showed great kindness through them all too. This is a great book to read and a good jumping off point to get to reading more about the blue people and the awesome Pack Horse Library and Book Women and Men.

Libraries are magical and librarians are magicians. So many of us found our love of the written word amidst the sacred stacks of our childhood bibliotech. We'll never forget the sense of excitement as the librarian handed us a pile of delicious new stories. Not surprisingly, libraries and librarians show up in the pages of lots of great books. Here are ten that we like.
