Daughter of Destiny-and a child shall lead them through hell

The bad seed bloomed and the flower is carnivorous! That could be the bumper sticker for this intense and entertaining story of a gorgeous child whose values go astray and the caring, loving Mom who becomes a victim of her own virtues and a victim of the lack of virtues in her daughter. Actually every one ends up suffering for their actions or lack of action in a story that seems too frightening to be true. I couldn't put it down from the time I opened the cover. Looking for that silver lining kept me turning the pages until I finished, and there is a silver lining. This is ultimately a story of denial and discovery, and brings the meaning of the philosophy of karma to a new level of understanding. If you are familiar with AA, or NA, or any other 12 step organization, you will be utterly amazed that the author maintained her own sobriety in the face of heart piercing betrayal. If you are a parent, you will shudder and pray that your child escapes the pain of "something missing" in their psyche. And you just might pay a little more attention to those "oh, that's just kid stuff" behaviors. I sincerely hope that no one anywhere ever has to deal with the pain and insanity that this family lived with day in and day out. It is truly a miracle that both Mom and daughter and everyone close to them survived, learned and moved on. A testament to love, The Book of Karma offers hope. Read it!

Inspirational, shocking, funny, interesting

Marshall brings to us a book which will have a meaningful effect on any number of different readers. On the surface it appears to be a book simply about Ms. Marshall's relationship with her daughter Karma, which is interesting and makes good reading in and of itself. Yet upon closer examination Ms. Marshall shares with us her feelings of torment as she struggles to make sense of her daughter's outrageous behavior. The behavior would be shocking to any of us. Karma manages to drive away all of Ms. Marchall's closest friends with accusations of mental instability and a murder attempt on her ex-husband. Ms. Marshall takes us with her on a spiritual journey to make sense of the horrible experiences with her daughter and ex-husband. Ms. Marshall begins to question her own sanity. But clearly what Ms. Marshall goes through would make any mother wonder about her own sanity if she had a daughter like Karma. The relationship with her daughter, tormentful and crazy making, propells Ms. Marshall into a painful and sometimes scary examination of the meaning of her life, She references re-incarnation, 12 Step recovery principles, dream interpretation, crystal therapy (to heal past life influences) and other less than conventional means of spiritual examintation, at least unconventional in Western society. She tells her story with wit, feeling, and courage. It is a story full of insights, spiritual messages, and profound revelations. A must read book. Thank you Ms. Marshall for sharing with us. The amount of courage it took for you to write this book is evident and cannot be underestimated. Your story is truly inspirational.Dominique Fifi
