Good dishes, nice presentation

This is a relatively small collection of recipes, and all that I have tried so far are winners. I really like the everything on one page presentation and the pictures showing what to expect.

Best Small Everyday Cookbook

I have had this book for 10 years. I have used 6 or 7 of the dishes over and over again to the raves of my family and friends. The value of any cookbook is if you use even one of the dishes so often it becomes a part of your life. This book has paid it's way over and over again. Try the Swedish meatballs or the Tosca cake. Tired of regular eggs? Try the baked eggs - easy and tasty! Bob Swan

Great introduction.

In its roughly 50 parts, all written by experienced cooks and cook book writers, HP Books' "The Book of ... Cooking" series takes you to the cuisines of various regions of the U.S. and around the world; all in easy to follow, well-explained recipes. This installment, the Book of (American) Heartland Cooking, presents recipe suggestions for all major courses, from appetizers to reads and desserts. Special chapters are dedicated to soups, poultry, (red) meat, fish, eggs, cheese, sandwiches, salads and vegetables. Classics such as baked chicken wings and baked potatoes, cranberry banana bread, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, dill sauce, farmer's omelet, BBQ beef, turkey and ham sandwiches, meatloaf, spareribs, pies, sloppy joes and popcorn party snack mix appear next to unique dishes such as pheasant baked in cream, spicy venison chili, cardamom sugar cookies, glazed orange bread, pork and raspberry sauce, turkey in pastry and sausage waffles. The book's last page contains metric charts for those unaccustomed to American measurements. From bell pepper antipasto and frosted apple cake to Wisconsin beer cheese soup and spicy zucchini bread, this collection of recipes, while not all-encompassing, is a great introduction to the richness of the cuisine of what is probably the most American of all American regions - and at a relative bargain price, to boot.
