If you can find a copy of this book, and you are interested in the history of jewelry, buy it. An excellent historical overview of gold in culture, jewelry and society. Readable and informative, covering the sources for gold, refining and crafting techniques ancient and modern, as well as the final uses in jewelry and money. Primarily Western orientation. If there was a criticism of this book it would be that, because of it's age, many of the illustrations are in black and white rather than color. An update of this volume with full color pictures would be much appreciated.
