look up!

this book is fabulous and complete - the photos are amazing and the explanations easy to understand.

The Book of Clouds

I bought this book for a photo reference for painting. But it turned out to be more then that. It has wonderful photography and subject matter. You can tell John Day loves clouds. Nice work.

Art for Artists

We bought this book after having looked through it in a store -- we thought we'd look at several before purchasing to compare the images and text. After pouring over 5 books of comparable content, Day's book was the clear favorite because of the variety and quality of images, the skillful organization, and the easy writing style that accompanied the images. An excellent book for those with an interest in weather -- and for an artist searching for the archetypes from which interpretations can be drawn. Beautiful images!

Very Good

I first saw this in a library and checked it out. I ended up buying my own copy. The photos are a wide variety and large. Some of them are slightly grainy, but not cheesy. Many of them are merely described as "clouds" instead of their classification, but the variety is what is significant for this volume. Not a must-have for meteorologists, but good book for weather hobbyists and certainly good for the coffee table.

A fine tribute to clouds by a veteran weatherman

The many photos making up the bulk of this book (some already seen on his popular website), are presented in a structured way that shows their features and beauty and significance. Dr John Day (know as cloudman) has been practising and teaching about meteorology for longer than most of us have been around. His text is brief, and his style is aimed both at beginners and those who already have some understanding and interest in weather. His chapter on the history of the naming of clouds make up the final section.
