Book Overview

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The book that sparked a revolution and inspired the hit Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo the original guide to decluttering your home once and for all.

ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL BOOKS OF THE DECADE--CNN

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?

Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo's clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).

With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house "spark joy" (and which don't), this international bestseller will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home--and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

My favorite book for decluttering and organizing

The title pretty much says it all. This book gives great guidance to changing the way you declutter and organize. I was working the opposite way and wondering why I couldn't make any progress. If you struggle with clutter, then this book is for you.

Wonderfully useful

This book gets scoffed by people who don’t WANT to declutter, taking her ideas out of context to discredit her advice. She does not say to get rid of everything you own or to go through essential household items like cutlery and kitchen utensils. It’s about recognizing what you do/don’t need, what you hold onto “just in case” or out of obligation/guilt, and letting those things go. It helps you not constantly clean the house...

Quick read that motivates!

I got the hardback, & its a smaller sized book that is an easy read. It doesn't blather on & on with a lot of verbage, she does give some anecdotal, but gets to the point quickly. Some parts are rather funny because they zing you. I LOL at the one about saving stuff to use for the house guest that never comes! Or about how your bedroom doesn't get messy by itself, but by you! It does make you think & realize you have a ton...

I love this book so much, I need a physical copy

This book is just wonderful on how to keep things in order. Before this book, I use to clean but I would get really tired because I had to clean up so much. Now?! If it’s a week day and I have enough energy to pick up, I can do so and make it look like I just spent the whole day cleaning up when in actuality, it took me 30 minutes. She makes you realize that we have personal connections with all of our things, whether it was...
