Book Overview

They're the black sheep--the bad boys every good girl wants to have hold her, touch her, take her, love her. But being bad never felt so good. . . "I have some spare beer, if you're interested. . ." I'd know that voice anywhere, and every time I hear it, it makes me sweat. Not that well-bred heiresses are supposed to sweat, but if you saw Donovan MacLeod, trust me, you'd need a change of clothes, too. It's been eighteen years, but he's got the same...

Love, love, love it!

I absolutely loved this book. It's funny, steamy and poignant. I heartily recommend it.

3.5 stars -just above average with a great premise

Donovan MacLeod finds himself returning to the town of his youth in a quest to help Kate Sutherland, the heiress he has always nursed a crush on. Her shrewish mother passed away and in an odd turnabout, Kate has swapped inheritances with her stop brother, giving up millions for an old camp compound in the Catskills. But someone has been vandalizing her camp, and Donovan decides to lend a helping hand. Suspicious at first, she reluctantly accepts his help, and the two find it difficult to resist the lust of their youth and the adults they have become. It's been nearly two decades, but everyone else still treats him like the son of the town drunk, as opposed to the former cop and righter of wrongs he has become. No one takes Kate's reports of vandalism to heart until Donovan arrives, then the acts of aggression step up to a more serious nature including arson. Could it be that her step-brother wants the money and the land? Kauffman's novels tend to be hit or miss with me and I am kind of on the fence with this one. I loved the premise, the characters, and the chemistry between them. But the story tends to drag on and on. Conversations are dragged out when a little narrative would help to move the story along. But once the momentum picks up, the story is much more engaging. And thank goodness the fairy godmothers don't make an appearance! While the culprits behind the vandalism are no surprise, their nefarious use for the camp sure is.

amusing heated contemporary romance

Heiress Kate Sutherland causes a media frenzy when he offers to trade her inheritance for a run down camp. Among those fascinated by her stance is former cop Donovan MacLeod, who thought of her as a spoiled rich girl when they knew each other over eighteen years ago. Donovan looks Kate up because he is worried about her and has never forgotten her perhaps because he set a world record for cold showers. He thinks she is in trouble and plans to keep her safe although he wonders who will keep him safe from his desire for her. As they work on renovating the camp, they fall in love, but someone has other plans for her and her camp that Mac knows he must be on the alert to prevent, but how can he maintain vigil when his brain contains one coherent thought showering with Kate. The relationship between THE BLACK SHEEP AND THE PRINCESS makes for an amusing heated contemporary romance. Fans will enjoy the witty teasing filled with double entendres as much as in your face commentary in bed, in the shower, over beer, and a few other locations. Although the threat seems off kilter, sub-genre fans will appreciate this lighthearted romp starring two delightful "not in love" bickering lovers. Harriet Klausner

Exceptional book

The Black Sheep and The Princess is another exceptional book by Donna Kauffman. Donovan Maclead aka Mac is in partnership with his two best friends from childhood. They form a group called the Trinity whose purpose is to right wrongs. When Mac sees an article about his childhood crush he rushes to her aid. Kate Sutherland trades her inheritance to open a youth camp for kids in need. But someone is leaving threatening messages and causing her to be fearful. She is shocked to find Donovan arriving to her rescue. Donovan and Kate decide to work as a team to find out what is going on at the camp. This 24-hour protection causes them to finally give into their attraction. Will they be able to find out if what they have is real or will the danger get to them first? The Black Sheep and The Princess have a wickedly hot and sexy couple. Kate and Donovan are funny and very sensual. The story behind the trouble is unexpected and funny. I am looking forward to the other partners in the Trinity getting their stories soon.
