A Superb Military Thriller

There is no pause in the action in this latest thriller from Don Brown. The author, who is a former Navy JAG officer, created a story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats throughout. It centers around a batch of plutonium stolen from the Russians that ends up in the hands of Chechnyan terrorists. Submarine commander Pete Miranda and his volunteer crew are tasked with destroying the ship carrying it. One huge catch is the location of the freighter. It is in an area that will render escape virtually impossible for the sub's crew. I won't give any more details on that in the interest of not spoiling it. Suffice it to say, the events occuring in this mission are amazing and harrowing. This novel will appeal to fans of Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, and Brad Thor. Don Brown is an amazing author who can write a thriller like those above and also pen a legal yarn like Grisham and Turow. If you have not read any of his books, do yourself a favor and get this one. I would also strongly recommend the following: Treason (Navy Justice, Book 1) Hostage (Navy Justice, Book 2) Defiance (Navy Justice, Book 3)

Fascinating Expose on Maritime Terrorism!

Did you realize that the ports of the United States are virtually defenseless against some foreign ship sailing into port with a nuclear bomb in it's belly? Did you realize that the Navy and Coast Guard have virtually no way to stop it? I didn't either, until I read Don Brown's exhilarating novel Black Sea Affair. This novel exposes the bonechilling scenarios of rogue freighters at loose on the high sea with nuclear weapons being constructed on the inside. In the novel, a rogue Russian Freighter, financed by terrorists, is on the high seas with a hydrogen bomb in it's belly. Where will it wind up? Couldn't put this novel down!

Great Naval Yarn!

This thriller is as good as they come!. It's plot is superbly and tightly woven. Sub skipper Pete Miranda is the epitome of the hero torn by a choice that will tear him from within. Black Sea Affair is full of geopolitical intrigue, fast action and an excellent plot. I enjoyed getting to learn a little about the explosive situation in Chechenya, something that most Americans know little about. Makes me appreciate the men and women of the US Navy. I took this book to the beach and couldn't put it down for two days!

Awesome Read!

I don't usually read military fiction, but Black Sea Affair kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. My fourteen year old son, who is home-schooled, picked the book up and devoured it in about two days. Aside from the awesome storyline, this novel was also a fascinating geography lesson for a part of the world that I wasn't all that familiar with. Highly recommended.

Most Thrilling Naval Novel since Hunt for Red October!

This is a spellbinding naval tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! In it, U.S. Submarine skipper Commander Pete Miranda leads a top secret mission to the Black Sea to avert the threat of nuclear terrorism. But with the world on the brink of disaster, an unexpected turn of events puts Miranda is in a no-win situation that will tear your heart out. Brown keeps the reader guessing up to the last second at each tension point in this book. You won't be able to put this down! As an ex-navy submariner who served on a Los Angeles class boat, I can say that while Don Brown doesn't get every little technical aspect of sub life right, he does a pretty darn job of nailing most of the details on the head and he paints a picture that's for the most part realistic. Not bad for an ex-Navy JAG officer. I've read most of Clancy and Grisham, and Don Brown does a marvelous job of combining the very best of both. This novel has just enough technical detail to make the story realistic, but not so much that the story gets bogged down. Mr. Brown pushes his thrilling storyline along quite rapidly. Black Sea Affair is an absolute must read for anyone seeking a thrilling literary adventure that will take the reader on an exciting and exhilarating ride to ports of call all over the globe.
