Great Fun for kids and adults

This book is a great resource for anyone with kids who like to play group games. Last summer I borrowed every book on games from the library to guide me in entertaining my three children ages 4-7, especially when friends were over. While I agree that many games are from my childhood, to me that was a big part of the appeal. While I vaguely remembered the games and having fun, it is great to have the rules spelled out. This is especially important when you have a group of kids running around anxious to play a new game. Instead of me trying to remember all of the nuances of the game, they are spelled out in this book, complete with a "what you need" sidebar, which is extremely helpful. Beyond just getting play started, I found this book wonderful for settling the inevitable disputes which arise during competitive group play. Instead of the kids arguing with each other or me about what the rule is or how they play it at school or somewhere else, I just read the rules from this book and the dispute is settled without emotion and the game moves on. This book has a permanent place in our garage for outdoor access and the kids love when we pull it out to play a game. It is great for getting dads and sitters involved as well. When the kids are all running around and need an activity, they can pick up the book and get a fun game going.

Nicely illustrated book of childrens games

This book is so cute. I love it's illustrations and the fact that it covers so many games I remember from my childhood but had forgotten exactly how to play. I was interested in this book because I was planning a birthday party for my son and needed some game ideas. It was helpful for party planning and I liked the fact that it was divided into sections such as "Outdoor Games", "Indoor & Party Games", "Car Games", & "Singing Games". Yes, as the last review stated, many of the games are common ones that you may already know. However, for those of us with younger children that may need a refresher course on childhood games, this book is ever so helpful. I'm sure you will find games that are new to you as well as heartwarming ones that will bring back memories from your childhood. I highly recommend this book!

Hello Everyone! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did working on it with my friends at Dutton! The project & painting took over two years to complete. I wanted to create a book that reminded me of the fun I had playing as a child before we knew about computers or expensive toys.
