Many people who respect God and His Word are uncertain regarding His teaching on this subject. That is somewhat understandable for those who have not made a serious study of the subject from the Bible. Any person sincerely seeking the truth must recognize that the Bible is the ONLY source of divine authority. If one is to be led by human opinion, including their own, they should recognize that there is simply no human opinion that is not contradicted by other human opinion. That does not at all preclude the study of the original languages, translations, and historical records. That is especially true in this case; e.g. the word translated as "wine" in the Bible can be correctly translated as the grape itself, as well as any product produced from the grapes. That includes both non-alcoholic juice and fermented (or alcoholic) juice. Therefore, each instance of the use of "wine" in the Bible does not necessarily mean an alcoholic beverage. It requires a lot of study and research to accurately reveal the use in each instance and context. If you are willing to set aside any pre-determined and prejudicial opinions you may have encountered, this outstanding scholar well presents such extensive and objective research. Of course, you will then decide what you will believe; but you will have considered one of the very best sources of study on this subject. Although I worked 41 years in the Information Technology field, I have been a lifelong student of the Bible. Again, only the Bible is absolutely trustworthy in all matters; but this author is an outstanding scholar. I have used some of his other works, and commend him most highly, (of course, I too am one of those beings whose opinions don't really matter - but truth does, so please check this work out - I think you'll be impressed!). I wish you well, may God bless you as you seek His will.
