Excellent first mystery novel

As an avid mystery reader, I can highly recommend "The Bend Sinister." It is well plotted and full of interesting quirky characters. Dr. David Peete, an ex-Navy SEAL turned sleuth, is a strong, complicated character who could become a major protagonist for a series of T. J. Doyle books. Discovering a new author is exciting -- I'll look forward to more books by this author.

Very enjoyable read?I'm looking forward to the next book.

I really enjoyed The Bend Sinister and particularly the main character, the flippant and somewhat irreverent David Peete. I enjoy the works of Nelson Demille, Web Griffin, and Michael Connolly. I found Peete to have the same biting sarcasm as Peter Wohl in Griffin's Police Series. I would love to see Peete and his ice-maiden boss in another book.

Exciting, unfolding a historic mystery tale.

This was an exciting mystery, combining intrigue and a historical perspective and culture beginning in the middles east, through Ireland and to the shores of Eastern, VA. The characters were modern. T.J. Doyle made them real, just like they were in your living room. The story-line went very quickly, from the intial sound-byte to the final conclusion. There's a lot of history in this book, which may not be apparent in the first reading. There is also a lot of description of the Eastern, VA shore. I recommend this book to many residents of the Eastern, VA area, and to military personnel who have travelled the world. I can strongly envision T.J. Doyle's mystery as an audio novel. I would love to see a 4-hour version of this novel on our automobile audio, as we travel North from VA, on our way to New England. A fascinating book, which I consumed this fall, while having the World Series on television. I am a Yankee fan; but, I put the series on mute, because this book was more exciting. Congratualations to Mr. Doyle. I hope he tackles more mysteries.

Compact & well-paced,it combines thriller with mystery

The essence of this intelligent and brilliantly plotted book is the fascinating premise:the possible discovery of the Casket of Alexander the Great. The author pulls you right in. The opening scenes:one in Constantinople in 1204AD., the second in a present-day Irish "sidewalk cafe" are masterful. Then he slices right to the heart of it all, and the hunt is on. The story is compact and well-paced, as it weaves past and present, and combines thriller with mystery. A great read. My congratulations to Tom Doyle
