The being, the knowing and the doing

The study is about the professional culture in Social Work in the area of Social Assistance. It is based on the premise that Social Work, through professional intervention of a pedagogical nature, participates in the formation processes of culture in society (ABREU, 2011), being the "main axis of organic insertion of the profession in social relations" (LOPES, 1999), therefore, it is also the main axis of formation of professional culture in Social Work; it may refer to the process of maintaining the unequal condition, prioritizing social control under the ideology of capital; and in a contrary way, it may strengthen the struggle of the working class guided by the perspective of the construction of a classless society, which includes the struggle in the field of social rights. Culture, based on the Gramscian analysis as sociability, a way of life, is in all spheres, is a constitutive part in the construction of hegemony, and has a prominent place in the struggle for the construction of a new hegemony by the working class, oriented by the ideology of the struggle for human emancipation. The professional culture in Social Work is understood as a way of being of the profession in its historical insertion in society.
