Possibly the best professional book I own.

When I first opened this book, I couldn't close it. Seven hours later, I had a four page list of things I wanted to change in my art room. This is the book for inspiration. You need to know something about art... chances are it is in this book. While it seems just a little out dated (nothing in the late 90's early 00's cited), this is the art educators' powerhouse of information. I could see a smaller book published as an update every 5-10 years to complete this datapool. Inspired by some of the lists, I've created: lesson plans, bulletin boards, timelines for the room, creative storage space, activities for students outside of the classroom, ways to get the community involved, innovative fund raisers, and much more. Yes, this is a book of LISTS. But you would not believe what these lists can answer for you.

a great Help just when I needed it most!!

The Book of Lists has been a saving grace to me...a just beginning high school teacher! I have been teaching ele art and middle school and have now jumped into 96 minute high school art classes and I need to fill every minute with interesting studies. This book is full of ideas. I love it !

Incredible Source for Beginning Art Educators

As an Art Educator preparing students to teach art in the K-12 ART room, I was thrilled to find this book! Helen Hume shares the invaluable information gained through her years of teaching in a very accessible form. I require this as a text for my Special Methods in Secondary Art Education class and my students go into their teaching internship with a valuable resource. This should be required in every art classroom. What I wouldn't have given for it when I started teaching 20 years ago!

Save yourself hours and hours of work.

As a high school art teacher, I turn to this book every week. This is a book for the creative teacher, who needs recources and inspiration, not a didactic overproduction. Dense and rich with all the research you would have assigned your assistant, if you had one. Put your name on it, and don't lend it out!

This is probably the most complete, concise art resourse .

When you first look over the introduction of general art topics and then the breakdown of each, the scope of research that went into doing this is incredible. the topics include lists of artists grouped not only by media but by era or contribution. Also are lists of topics for the teaching process: student evaluations, suggestions for special needs students, vocabulary terms for topics such as painting, ceramics, photography, crafts ,art history, drawing, printmaking, jewelry, and others. If you know of anyone graduating college looking to teach elementary to college level, this is the book to give as a gift.
