Gives basic pencil drawing technique and step-by-step instructions for many drawings including still lifes, buildings, landscapes, vehicles, animals, and people. This description may be from another edition of this product.
It’s pictures are many and varied. I drew several of them and learned a lot. He tells you what pencils to use and shoes examples of the original first sketch and progresses in detail in 3 more steps to come to your final drawing. I am learning a lot. The only thing I question is his use of hatching on people’s faces. It looks like crazed pottery. Who looks like that? It is unflattering.
I'm excited to give this to my son

I love the great detail and range of categories in this book. There's a still life section, vehicles, landscape animals and whatnot. It's a longer book and more helpful than other books like this from other publishers that I've seen.
Must Have for the Studio Bookshelf
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
This book is a great reference to have on the bookshelf of your studio if you're an artist and a great learning tool if you want to be an artist and/or learn to draw. I have several in this Collector's Series; The Art of Basic Drawing, The Art of Drawing Dragons and other Fantasy Creatures and The Art of Drawing People. They are all equally good and permanent books that I'm proud to have in my studio!
a good gathering of books

Takes Pencil Drawing to a New Level...
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
If you really want to see how amazing pencil can look on paper when you have master it, get this book. Gene Franks creates all his own textures with just simple strokes and the drawings come off the page! I used to use a blender for most of my shading. Not any more! It will take alot of practice to be able to even come close to his style, but you will get so many amazed faces when people see what you can do with a simple pencil and a blank sheet of paper. I highly recommend it!
REALIZING THE GREAT POTENTIAL OF PENCIL
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
The book contains impressive drawings of Gene Franks in pencil. It offers a wide spectrum of drawing models for the reader-- from toys to cars, animals, portaits and landscapes. By mere study of his drawings, one gets a pretty good idea of the many ways varying pencil strokes maybe used to define the texture of a still life drawing. His drawings look like the real thing, except that they're in black and white. His notes and tips on how to render each drawing are also very helpful to the reader. This book is something you'll keep using for the rest of your drawing career.
