This provides quilting basics, but also goes beyond them to provide a complete reference guide and project book. From choosing equipment and supplies to selecting designs and calculating yardage, this is packed with basic information.

Every quiltmaker should own this exceptional reference.

Harriet Hargrave and Sharyn Craig are both exceptional quiltmakers and gifted teachers. This full-color book pools their collective skills into a quilting reference book that every quiltmaker should own. It features more than 80 quilts and includes generous step-by-step instructions with exceptional illustrations that thoroughly teaches the art of quiltmaking. You'll find information on selecting, collecting, and caring for fabric; workarea and storage ideas; sewing machine and other equipment info; pattern drafting; designing borders and quilts; yardage calculations; cutting techniques (including how to cut an assortment of shapes using a rotary cutter); piecing techniques; and much more. You'll also find an abundance of helpful tips and insight. There is so much useful knowledge and so many beautiful projects packed into its pages that any quiltmaker, no matter what level of experience, will treasure this book.

The Art of Classic Quiltmaking

This is a beautiful quilt book, one of the best in recent years. The book is an exceptional reference book, as it includes information on fabric selection and preparation, tools and equipment, fabric cutting, calculating yardage, the types of settings for quilt blocks and how to achieve them, and the basics of the primary piecing techniques used by modern quilters. And, that is only the tip of the iceberg. There is one caveat though, this is not a pattern book. While the book includes dozens of pictures of gorgeous quilts, the book does not come with detailed instructions on how to reproduce most of them. You have to figure it out for yourself. Although the book can teach you how to draft blocks and calculate yardage for whatever size quilt you choose to make, making most of the quilts in this book might be more than most beginning quilters can handle. Nonetheless, whether you're a beginner or have years of experience, if you're a quilter, this book is well worth the investment. Any quilter would be well served by reading the book from cover to cover.
