Leads the actor in building a technique, and then fully explains how to put that technique to work from basic exercises to multi-dimensional performances. This description may be from another edition of this product.
The first part of this book defines concepts important to the art of acting. It also teaches the reader the fundamentals of Method Acting. Colyer outlines, in the second section of the book, the tried and true fail-safe technique of creating a multidimensional, believably human character. The next section of the book gives advice about playing your character's role within the dramatic action. The reader learns how to put a director's blocking to creative use, how to score actor's work to each beat of the playwright's text and how to allow the character to express themselves emotionally. And the final chapter is a list of plays within which to find the most interesting and challenging characters for the reader to create. This book is in its 3rd edition and it is easy to see why it has become a classic.
