Benno Janssen was one of the twentieth century's most celebrated architects. Known as "the Mellon's architect," at the behest of R. B. Mellon he created many of the most memorable sporting structures at the Rolling Rock Hunt Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, as well as the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh. A beautiful coffee table presentation.
The book is great in cataloguing the builldings, style and architecture Benno created in and around Pittsburgh. The old world style gives a feeling of permanance to his buildings. Miller did a excellent job in picking the significant Projects of Benno's and showcasing them. I enjoy this book.
A Great American Architect
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
Anyone who has experienced a Benno Janssen designed property understands the beauty, majesty and uniqueness of his style. His use of the natural resources of Western Pennsylvania and a style of combining high roofs and archways create an Eastern European look. He is truely one of our country's greatest architects. I recommend this book for anyone who appreciates great architecture, especially when it utilizes the surrounding landscape.
