Schulze's book is not an in depth look at the problems in the Arab-Israeli issue, but is a good introduction to how the problems grew quickly starting in the late 19th century. The main points of conflict discussed briefly with various documents also being included in the back of the text to help you get a better idea of some of the treaties and agreements that have been used starting with the Balfour Agreement. It's a quick read and will help anyone learn more about the current conflict and the roots of how the conflict began.

Summarised in just under 100 pages, this is a good read for anyone looking for a brief overview of the conflict. It doesn't do much editorialising, though - so if you're looking for a strong, penetrating view from a heavyweight, this is really more chronicle than commentary. Excellent start, though.
