Andrew Drumm was a cattleman and livestock entrepreneur whose spectacular success placed him among Kansas City's elite at the turn of the 20th Century. At the height of his success and influence, he resolved to use his resources to fund a working farm where hundreds of orphan and indigent boys, over several generations, lived, worked and gained self-reliance. As part of the 2019 centennial of what is now the Drumm Farm Center for Children in Independence, Missouri, this biography details Drumm's experiences in the California Gold Rush and on the cattle trails of the American Southwest before he moved permanently to Kansas City. There Drumm helped build the city's stockyards and meatpacking district before establishing the farm, where children continue to benefit today from the cattleman's magnanimous gift.
