This remains the doyen of reference books on American soccer. A pity it is now over 20 years out-of-date. Why won't some brave publisher step in and revise the damn thing? In spite of all that has transpired in American soccer since 1980, the book still contains plenty of useful information. The college game in particular is given enormous attention, with season-by-season records, league champions, and a historical overview (not to mention some wonderful photographs). The NASL takes pride of place in the professional game, with a player register, season-by-season reviews, and a lot of photos you're unlikely to see anywhere else.As one might expect, the U.S. national team is horribly under-represented (no review of their progress - or lack thereof - in the various World Cup qualification competitions) and the international game is scarcely mentioned. But for all that, it remains indispensable to researchers and historians.
