Daniel Boylan is going to make history, being the first African-American Ambassador to France. Young, handsome, and rich. He has set his sights high, but he knows it's lonely at the top. When Daniel attends his sister's engagement party, he is taken with Katherine, his sisters best friend. Katherine has always had a crush on Daniel, but he was older and never really paid attention to her, now, he notices her and she is thrilled. Daniel feels the chemistry, but because of his politcal status and image, he lets Katherine know that they could never be. She's white and he is black, he doesn't want to portray the constant image of other black celebraties. Katherine is hurt, but concedes. Through circumstance and fate they are thrust together and give into their passions, Daniel is willing to chance it, and Katherine is hoping for more, but doesn't expect much. As always though, meddling hands interfere, and Daniel is pushed into an unwanted, loveless, marriage and Katherine is left with her heartbroken. Ten years later, Daniel has never forgotten Katherine and he is older and wiser. Katherine has a secret that she keeps from not only Daniel, but from the Boylan family, until an unexpected illness forces her to ask Daniel for help and reveal it. Daniel proposes a solution to the situation, Katherine accepts, but can Daniel convince Katherine that they deserve a second chance. This couple starts, then stops, then go backwards. They run emotional circles around each other. I would have prefered that they come to their senses earlier, but the characters were prideful and stubborn. I was so happy when one of them broke down. I normally read interracial novels that have a black women in the lead, but this still was a nice story and I enjoyed it. Is the recipe the real deal?
