This book documents the first 50 years of the Alliance of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, a volunteer organization that began in 1958 with the mission of increasing the effectiveness of the museum as a cultural center of the city and state. The book describes the Alliance?s many fundraising projects?including a museum shop and restaurant?and the group?s efforts to attract new members to the museum and to stimulate interest in its collections, exhibitions and programs. Part of the story is told through the words of past Alliance presidents, excerpted from their annual reports. The book includes historical photographs of members and events as well as color reproductions of 19 of the more than 300 works of art purchased for the museum through the financial support of the Alliance.
