For those who are 'white knuckling their way through sobriety...'

As a talk show host I am accustom to being inundated with requests from PR folks trying to get me to book their particular client on my show to plug their book. Since I didn't like my current events show to be a blatant advertisement for a writer, I generally delete these types of solicitation ...25 times a day. In fact I had hit delete on the email regarding Chris Prentiss's book just as my eye caught a phrase and I had to actually retrieve the message. It was the cure rate of better than 80% that got my attention, and triggered my skepticism...along with a tiny sliver of hope since I knew how many times friends and members of my own family had fallen off the wagon. I booked Chris for 15 minutes and they sent me the book. A few days beforehand I thought I better skim the book so I could ask him some tough questions. I read the entire book and called the pr representative back and booked Chris for the entire show. I think what hooked me was Chris's comment about observing an AA meeting where people were `white knuckling their way through sobriety". Controversial statement. And true for too many. The book was specific about the path. Find the underlying cause(s). Work on that. The true story of his son's journey was engaging and encouraging. For weeks and months after the show I received emails and phone calls from listeners: "What was the name of that guy again? What's the name of his book?" Of all the shows and topics I have covered in 17 years on air, I have never received such a response.

"The Alcoholism And Addiction Cure" is a core addition

Alcoholism continues to be the most pervasive and widespread addiction in the United States. The number of alcoholics in the country is numbered in the millions. Traditional treatments for alcoholism have relapse rates as high as 80%. Except for one - 'Passages'. This three step treatment program originates from a substance abuse treatment center based in Malibu, California, and is the basis of "The Alcoholism And Addiction Cure: A Holistic Approach To Total Recovery". Co-founder of 'Passages', Chris Prentiss deftly lays out just how to create a personalized, holistic treatment program to completely cure a dependency; explains the four causes of dependency; shows just how thoughts, emotions, and beliefs serve as key factors in the recovery from dependency; and how the stimulation of the body's self-healing potential can lead to the permanent elimination of dependency. A critically important and thoroughly 'reader friendly' instructional guide to recovery from alcoholism or addictions to other drugs or substances, "The Alcoholism And Addiction Cure" is a core addition to personal, professional, substance abuse treatment center, and community library Health & Medicine reference collections and reading lists.

I'm addicted to this book

I believe this book is going to change the world, because it's changing my life. For the first time ever, I understand the truth about my addictions and how to cure them. While every other treatment center views alcoholism and addiction as an incurable disease, The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure says drugs are not the core problem, but merely the substances we use to help us cope with our real problems-- which the book calls underlying conditions. There are only four types of underlying conditions, the book says. Once they are discovered and cured, our need for drugs and alcohol will disappear, along with our cravings. Until we identify and root them out, which the book explains how to do, we continue to self medicate. The book gives a great example saying "Suppose you had a chronic itch and scratched it regularly throughout the day--would you be a scratchaholic? More important, if you sought treatment for your ailment, would you be treated for scratchism?" This book is so well written, the stories so fascinating and the ideas so life changing that after I spontaneously read a paragraph to my wife, she made me continue reading her the entire book aloud every night since she didn't want to wait until I was finished before she started it. Chris Prentiss, the author says he discovered the cure to any kind of addiction in a desperate fight to save the life of his own son, a long time heroin addict. Based on his insights and discoveries, Chris founded Passages, apparently the world's most successful substance abuse treatment center (84.4 percent of addicts who attend Passages never relapse. Between 80 and 90 percent of people who attend traditional treatment centers do.) I especially like it that Chris wrote The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure to help those who didn't have the money to go to his treatment center. This book is giving me hope. It's giving me back my integrity. It's giving me answers. For the first time ever, I feel fully empowered to address my addictions and take back my life. If you have addictions of any kind, this book is the ultimate "fix" for you.

An important book that will help you create a breakthrough

This book is vital for anyone who is struggling with alcoholism or addiction or has a loved one who is. You will not only find hope, but you'll find practical steps you can take right now to create a breakthrough. This book changed my entire perspective on alcoholism and addiction. Like many people, I thought they were incurable illnesses, and that it was always a long road back to recovery-if you ever made it back. Recently, I was at a seminar and started a conversation with the couple sitting next to me. When I asked the man his name, he told me his name and then immediately said, "I'm an alcoholic. I've been sober for 24 years." He said it was still a daily struggle for him to stay sober. What's amazing about this book is that it is based on a new program that is changing this paradigm completely. It's based on the successful program from Passages, a treatment center in Malibu, where the success rate is 84.4%, while traditional therapies have a relapse rate as high as 80 or 90%. This book shows how to discover the real, underlying causes of dependency and says that once they are identified and cured, the need for alcohol or drugs is no longer there, because the reason people are turning to them is no longer there. As the author explains, the real causes can be anything from hypoglycemia, attention deficit disorder, thyroid or brainwave pattern imbalances to deep emotional pain. Another key to the success of the program spelled out in this book is that it emphasizes one-one-one treatments rather than group meetings, which clearly aren't successful. The book tells you exactly which practitioners and doctors to work with to create your own one-on-one program with professionals right where you live. The author suggests using both traditional medical and complementary therapies. What is also remarkable is that those who have been through this program say they no longer struggle to stay sober. Don't be surprised that the concepts in this book are controversial. New breakthroughs always are. But you can't argue with the success this approach is having. I've recommended this book to many people because I've been so impressed with it.

This book will save lives

I found this book insightful, uplifting and empowering. The author tells the story of his son's 10-year addiction to heroin, cocaine and alcohol. What is so amazing is that the author never accepts the platitudes about alcoholism & addiction and never gives up on his son, Pax. He debunks the myths that "alcoholism and addiction are diseases" and "once an addict always an addict" and shows us that "relapse is NOT part of recovery" but part of a system of treatment that doesn't work because it doesn't treat the real, underlying causes of alcoholism & addiction. After fighting his son's addictions for 10 years, the father helped his son finally figure out the underlying conditions that were causing his abuse of drugs and alcohol. That opened the way to Pax's cure. Chris and Pax then opened their own recovery center in Malibu, CA, so they could help cure others. They have an 84.4 % success rate where traditional treatments have a relapse rate as high as 80 or 90%. This wonderful book shows how you can develop your own personalized, holistic treatment program (uses integrative medicine--traditional plus the best of alternative medicine) with practitioners right where you live. The Alcoholism & Addiction Cure reveals the three steps to permanent sobriety and the four causes of dependency. If people buy this book for loved ones who have problems with drugs and alcohol, many lives will be saved.
