Another good read

I enjoyed this one almost as much as I enjoyed Pretty Evil. Ms. Davis has a way of penning some pretty interesting stories. Rephaim was something else, but so was Mysti. I wonder what became of her? Maybe we'll have to find out in the sequel. Congrats, Ms Davis on another job well done. I really enjoyed this book.

Great Read!

This is one of the most interesting books I have read so far. The plot is amazing & the characters are strong and well portrayed. I started reading this book one evening and finished it by next morning. The author has executed the story very well which will keep the readers hooked all thru. There is lot of passion, love, hate, desire for power, confusion, loneliness and lot more in this book. Just a GREAT READ!!!

GREAT PAGETURNER

I could not put this book down and again Lexi has done it again, very entertaining, what I like about After Wife was different from your everyday same storyline, very creative, kept you wondering what was going to happen....

terrific urban romantic fantasy

Los Angeles prosecutor Malcolm Smalls and Nia Youngblood have tried twenty-eight times to make love, but somehow something always happens to intercede. The twenty-four years old beauty is a virgin, but this time Malcolm expects the charm as they are in Vegas. However, once again her unknown protector intercedes and gifts Nia with a cell phone containing a video of Malcolm with Judge Victoria Bowden. At a teenage trial presided by Judge Bowden, Nia offers defense attorney David Wrightwood the video of his opponent Malcolm with Vicky. He rejects her offer insisting he will win the case anyway and asks her out instead. As they fall in love, her protector will do what it takes to eliminate the competition even killing the persistent David if need be. Demon Lord Rephaim has waited patiently for two and a half decades for Nia to become twenty-five so he can make her his queen; no mortal regardless of his courage will prevent their destiny. Inane title word play aside, this is a terrific urban romantic fantasy built on the premise of demonic destiny vs. mortal love. The story line is fast-paced with a whimsical underside as Nia wonders if her unseen protector will ever step forward and explain his intentions. Nia accepts the mystic easily; which logically makes sense since she has lived with the paranormal as normal all her life, but a bit more back story beyond mom the witch would have anchored her disposition. Still this is an excellent romantic fantasy as the date of reckoning approaches. Harriet Klausner

It's Getting Hot In Here...

Lexi Davis's sophomoric offering, The After Wife, centers on Nia Youngblood, a gorgeous 24 year-old attorney who has a long-suffering itch that seemingly cannot be scratched. She is a virgin plagued by ever increasing steamy, erotic nightly dreams in search of Mr. Right to fulfill her fantasies. Unbeknownst to her, an otherworldly, demonic force wants her to himself to fulfill a prophecy by her twenty-fifth birthday and works overtime to terrorize her suitors whenever intimate acts are initiated. Deserted by her Wiccan mother at infancy and raised by an alcoholic, failed minister of a father, Nia knows both she and her life are far from normal; but does not know who to talk to, why things happen, or how to counteract the weirdness. She knows, too well, that throughout her adult life strange things happen when intimacy is imminent. None of her beaus, except one, have had the staying power to weather destructive earthquakes, searing fires, and bone-rattling thunderbolts that seem to only target them. Enter the dashingly handsome David Wrightwood, a wholesome, church-going, fellow attorney with a heart of gold and eyes only for Nia. They are instantly attracted to each other and it does not take long for things to heat up -- literally. The plot is propelled by burning (no pun intended) questions: Why is Nia pursued by this being? Why must he marry her? What is the source of Nia's unique flame-retardant skin and constantly elevated body temperature? Will she and David make it as a couple? Davis mirrors her debut, Pretty Evil, in that she buoys the plot with a touch of the supernatural/paranormal. If readers can entertain the speculative aspects, they will find well-paced action sequences, interesting characters with their own agendas and secrets, and likable, beautiful protagonists. I think those who enjoyed her debut, will find satisfaction with this novel. It is a quick, light read perfect for Spring Break and the Summertime beach bag.
