Christians surviving the Civil War

I'm particularly attracted to the Civil War era and so all aspects of it are of interest. This book, though fiction, does contain some real historical events and people. The families depicted are struggling Christians which made the story more interesting. It was interesting to me to get a feeling for what it must have been like for Christians to suffer through this war and what the preaching must have been like. Engaging story that keeps you reading - along with some surprises. This book is part of a series, but the reader does not need to read the previous books to enjoy the story.

Overall, I give this novel a 4 because it wasn't quite as exciting as the others on "The American Family Portrait Series", of course, I have high expectations of Cavanaugh because he is my favorite writer. This is a good read though, it took me a little longer to read then the others. I do recommend this book for teens and adults alike, that is, if you like exciting, action packed Christian novels.

This is one of my favorites in this great series!This book is so exciting and it has some surprising twists in the story that I really like. It takes place during the Civil War, and the characters are so real and interesting. The series is full of exciting people, places, history, romance, and faith.I'm seventeen years old, and they are on my favorites list... I'm sure you'll love them!

Great Series

These books are all great. If you like history and Christian topics, I would recommend them all. I have read all the way to the Peacemakers and many of them I couldn't put down. Cavanaugh's ability to put the reader into the story and also come up with believable inserts of famous characters is excellent. Buy the books!
