In her typical upbeat, tell-it-like-it-is style, Charlene Ann Baumbich tells hilarious tales about the dazes of Christmas and reminds us to find the holy amid the ho, ho, ho.
This book should be read annually, before the big plans for Thanksgiving begin. It is incredibly funny, inspirational and sometimes sad. Colorful images of, often ridiculous, personal experiences are delightfully written with a talent for relating the experiences, the reader has often shared, in such a way that one laughs and cries all at the same time. Will 10 strings of lights really light up the 27 year-old blue spruce which beloved husband George has suddenly decided must be lit? What is an "Angel of Death Cookie?"It is obvious the author finds great peace and love from her relationship with God, which she passes on in her own wonderful way. Regardless of your depth of faith or to whom, you can appreciate and be inspired by such prayers like "Thank you, Lord, for the miracle of the crackers and cheese ball that fed the multitudes," and "Lord, help me remember to pace myself one stitch at a time this holiday season, and to make you the canvas to which I sew the pieces of my heart." After reading this book, I found I had an incredible need to read the author's other books. I am, now, discovering that my reading of these, newly purchased, books may result in my screwing up all of my "perfect" Christmas plans. So be it! I just can't stop myself!
