Thackray's 2009 Investor's Guide (Thackray's Investor's Guide) This is a very useful guide to seasonal investment strategies. It's not a book to "read," but rather a calendar to be referred to throughout the 2009 year (and beyond) for investment trends and strategies. After a few sections of explaining the methodology of seasonal investing, the bulk of the book is a monthly/weekly calendar. Each month is introduced by descriptions of which market sectors are up, which are down, and what trends are prevailing at that time of year. Each weekly subsection goes farther, explaining specific investment plays that are available at that time of year. All such trends are measured (usually) against 20 years of data from the S & P500. For instance, the book explains when Consumer Staples outperform Consumer Discretionaries, when Consumer Electronics and Telecomms are up and why, what periods of the year favor Oil and/or Precious Metals, et cetera. This is not a book to base your investing on, but it is a very helpful guide to seasonal trends and opportunities throughout the year. And it's valid even in today's down markets.
